Daphne x burkwoodia 'Carol Mackie'
An extraordinarily hardy, variegated shrub with universal appeal. Plant near an entry door or the the kitchen window where the fragance of its spring flowers will be appreciated. Depending on climate this is an evergreen or semievergreen to deciduous shrub. Sun or part shade and go light on the water. Use as a border plant or at a woodland edge.

Romneya coulteri -Matalija Poppy
This California native will provide a flowering display from late summer through fall. It thrives in poor, dry soils and does best in areas not overly watered. It does need good drainage and should be contained as it does spread with underground roots.
The huge white flowers are crowned with golden stamens and the texture is like crepe paper. The foliage is a bluish-green.
